    I am about to be 42 years old and I have about maybe 5% of usable vision left. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and I know I need to learn a voiceover in order to be able to use my phone and all of that a key inside of it, but without knowing voiceover, I wouldn’t be able to take full advantage of all that is available for me through my smart phone. I have tried and failed so many times trying to teach myself voiceover and I cannot get pass lesson two on the practice tutorials for voiceover, and there’s no professional help around my area for technology, does anyone have any suggestions on a way I can be able to teach myself and learn voiceover before I go Toto it’s giving me much anxiety and frustration that I cannot learn it so if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again!❤

    I have Usher‘s Simmons Sherman, but it’s my retinitis pigmentosa that is my biggest obstacle and technology is very hard for me to learn, especially trying to teach myself and there isn’t much help in my area as far as professional help. Can this site be of any help to someone oh Doesn’t have the eye disease is mentioned in this podcast as I mentioned, I have retinitis pigmentosa and looking for support in adjusting and helping as well as technology. I also just got the wewalk Smart and I am trying to figure it out. Any comments, suggestions or questions for me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! Love your podcasts!❤

    Does Hadley have a US States directory of Blind /VIP counselors where she and Beth Andrews ect. who are certified or licensed? If not yet maybe a directory can be started soon.

      There isn't such a listing...yet. You could look at Psychology Today or any other listing of counselors and review their bios. Sorry can't be of more help.

    Excellent discussion and thanks. One thing I was hoping for were tips on joining in with communal worship songs displayed on screens. Kinda tired of just standing there when there are songs I don’t know or not familiar with.

      I wonder if you could use the tip Pastor Himmel suggested for anything that's projected onto the wall during service. He's suggesting asking the church administrator to email to you so you can follow along on a tablet or smart phone.

    • @geoffjelly4959
      @geoffjelly4959 11 месяцев назад

      @@HadleyHelps Thanks yes, have done that with a previous church, but found it was really based on the goodwill of one person who wasn’t always there! That was the worship leader. Actually have just looked into it and find that there is an app called ProRemote which allows a user to view on their tablet what is being broadcast to the screen in real time. I guess I could then zoom on the iPad for my needs.

    I am a visually impaired young man who has been going through my journey with vision loss for the past 10 years, and I was wondering if you guys have ever done any work with the able gamers charity? I am someone who has always sought out stress relief through video games more specifically halo and the game destiny and ever since my vision has shifted to the point where I can no longer engage in my video games has caused me great. aggravation. I am aware that there are audio games but the team associated with both games has recently created an accessibility team and I am just wondering if that is something you guys cover? Losing the ability to have my video games or watch anime has been a great source of pain for me over these past three years with my new vision change, and I would do nothing. to get that sensation back in anyway. I currently play Pokémon GO and have advocated the Pokémon Company and Nintendo to include accessibility options for their mobile game. Pokémon Go as I feel they couldn’t install a way for voice Vista or the old soundscape interface to work with it. I really appreciate this video and I hope his comment reaches you.

      Hi there! Sorry for the delayed response. Hadley connects with manufacturers and advocates for accessibility all the time. I am not aware of any particular efforts with regard to video games. But I will ask the team and get back to you. In the meantime, the National Federation for the Blind routinely does this work. You may want to connect with them, too.

    Just had to add after hearing Ed the psychologist recounting his running into tree branches. My eyesight loss was 15 years ago in my early 20s not total, but I do run into tree branches when they’re lower than 6’2” off the ground as that’s about how tall I am maybe a little taller. what’s so great and Ed and I could be friends thought I was only one that actually walked the sidewalks. Taking my clippers with me. Like I have a hair trigger on my handheld clippers. First memorable encounter. I called them Latin trees. Was in a part of Orlando Florida where all the Latin guys would get out and cut the trees they could only cut so high without a ladder. being a few inches over 6 foot tall, I always ran into those branches, overhanging the sidewalk. Called them Latin trees, and would have to break off branches or trim them or duck. Then recently I encountered similar trees, overhanging the sidewalk in the apartment complex I moved to. I went ahead and decided to trim a few branches that were very low that not only myself, but others would run into. Didn’t bother making a complaint to the office. I just threw a few of those branches at the base of the tree and the rest in the dumpster. Seems they got the message the trees no longer overhang sidewalk. The complex has trimmed them all at least 8 feet up and completely manicured. Who knows it might’ve already been on their list of things to do. Sometimes we have to be proactive and creative. Truly loved Ed recounting his experience with tree branches. Very relatable.

      I'm glad you found Ed's story relatable. Also sounds like taking matters into your own hands has helped you (and likely many others), too. Thank you for the note.

    This was very insightful. Personally, thought at times like I had PTSD related to loss of site 15 years ago, but when I brought that up with therapist recently, and they didn’t really see the correlation. Seemed they thought as a result that I’m still living blind so it’s not a post traumatic situation. One day at a time, keep moving forward, adapting to the sided world we live in. Looking at it as a challenge to overcome. like being my own therapist saying; “Is whatever odd experience encounter or situation right now worth getting upset over?” These days being kind to others friendly in an unfriendly climate is so important. Remind myself when walking around to keep a smile on my face. There’s always somebody worse off than myself. amazing how many times friends and family come to me for help when I don’t seek assistance from others near enough.

      Thank you for this note. Taking things one day at a time and being kind to others makes a lot of sense. I'm not surprised that others come to you for help. You seem to have figured out a thing or two.
